The silver Y is a medium-sized moth with intricately patterned wings that provide camouflage. The wings have a silver-colored mark shaped like a letter Y or a Greek letter Gamma. The coloration of the moth varies depending on the climate in which the larvae grow. The silver Y is widespread across Europe and the Palearctic, including North Africa. It can produce multiple generations in a year, with a fourth generation under favorable conditions. The larvae feed on a variety of low-growing plants, including crops, and are considered pests. The adults mate and lay eggs before dying.
