Polydesmidae is a family of millipedes in the order Polydesmida. This family includes more than 240 species in about 30 genera. These millipedes have a mostly Holarctic distribution that extends south not only to Mexico and North Africa but also as far as Java.

Millipedes in this family can be 4 mm to 30 mm long and come in colors like black, red, brown, or pale. They have a small collum with a smooth front edge and well-developed paranota with lateral teeth. In the genus Perapolydesmus, adult females have 20 segments while adult males have 19, showing sexual dimorphism. These millipedes are part of a family known for these unique features.
