The species Tachina fera is found in various regions including Europe, North Asia, Japan, and North Africa. It inhabits humid regions, meadows, forests, woodland, and natural gardens. Tachina fera has a distinctive appearance with grayish upperside thorax, yellow-orange abdomen, and long bristles on the thorax and abdomen. They are parasitoids of caterpillars, mainly those from the families Noctuidae and Lymantriidae. There are two generations of Tachina fera per year, and they play a role in forest pest control.
