“Bristle Flies“
Cylindromyia brassicaria is a species found in Central Asia, China, and various parts of Europe, including countries like Germany, Spain, and Turkey. These flies typically live in meadows and hedges. They are about 9-13 mm long with a reddish-orange middle section on their abdomen and black bristles. Adults are active from June to August and lay eggs on bugs to develop as endoparasitoids. Larvae feed on bugs like the Hairy Shieldbug and Green Shieldbug, while adults mainly feed on nectar and pollen from plants like Heracleum sphondylium and Valeriana officinalis.
