Dance Flies
Dance Flies: family of suborder “Brachyceran Flies“

Empididae is a family of small to medium-sized flies with a slender body and a range of colors from yellow to black. They have large eyes, usually three-segmented antennae, and long mouthparts. The wings are clear or partially tinged, with distinct venation patterns. Adult empidids can be found in various habitats and feed on arthropod prey. Some species have elaborate courtship rituals, while others exhibit diverse mating systems. Empididae is well represented in fossil records, and some subfamilies within the family may be reclassified in the future. Identification resources and species lists are available for further research.
